Nine Recipes for Navratri Fasting

7. Singhara Atte Ka Halwa

Singhare Atta, or water chestnut flour, is a popular fasting ingredient in northern India. Singhare Ka Halwa is a simple and quick dessert to prepare. Except for the addition of milk or water, all of the procedures are nearly identical to those for traditional Halwa.

8. Samak Kheer

No celebration is complete unless sweets are served. Samak kheer is a traditional sweet porridge made during the Hindu festival of Navratri. Barnyard millets, milk, and sugar are used to make it. Cardamom powder and saffron are used to flavor the dish. In taste, it is also very similar to regular kheer.

9. Makhana Kheer
